Origin : Unknown. The first specimens of Neocaridina cf. zhangjiajiensis var. White where seen for the first time at the German breeder Ulf Gottschalk’s place.

Description : Characteristic shape of the shrimps belonging to the Neocaridina genus, medium length rostrum. To this day, it is difficult to say what is the colouration of the Wild type specimens. The status being itself questioned by specialists on the subject. The selected forms like the White Pearl are widely available. The have a translucent white background colouration and characteristic black eyes. The female gonads produce de ovarian masses that is of a very luminous white colour. Behaviour : Excellent gregarious specie, must absolutely live in groups of 6 individuals of the same specie no less.

Life span : around 20 months

Feeding habits : Omnivorous with a strong vegetarian tendency favouring algae.

Sexual dismorphism : The females are larger. The segments that make up the abdomen on females are lengthened to offer protection to the eggs that are held by the pleopods (swimmerets located under the belly).

Reproduction : This specie uses a direct reproduction cycle without any larval stages in salt water. The whole cycle of incubation, hatching and growth is done in fresh water conditions. Incubation of the eggs under the female’s belly lasts 3 to 4 weeks. The young that are 3 to 4 mm long live like the adults and feed in the same manner. If breeding is done in a specific tank they are very prolific, care will need to be taken not to over populate.
